The back of the case (woyww #482)

August 29, 2018 By Marit 17 Comments

A rainy Wednesmorning and boy, is it a long time ago that I could say that! Autumn really is just around the corner… in a few days it’ll be September already. I’m looking forward to mild weather and the leaves on the big Oak turning all gold. I don’t mind the rain today ’cause it gives me the opportunity to finally do some things in the house that I postponed during the Summer. And when you postpone tasks, there’s a big chance it never gets done at all.

So yesterday I took out the paint to get the first layer on the back of the case in my atelier. As you could see in this former post Tour d’Atelier there’s a bunk bed for guests in the corner behind that case. I don’t want guests to see a dull brown back of the case when they wake up in the morning so I decided to paint it… LILAC!

No, not on this picture… this is just the white under layer.

So, lilac, to complete the ‘seventies hippie-look’ that it already has because of the hand crocheted blankets on the bed. I might even paint flowers or a mandala afterwards… we’ll see.

There’s another case that needed its back painted ’cause it stands in sight and since I had the paint out already, I carried that case to my atelier and put a white layer on too.

This one will get another layer of white, nothing fancy here ’cause it stands in front of a window that’s between the bedroom and the living room. I don’t want to see lilac all day!

While I am busy painting backs of book cases, the desk looks like this.

It doesn’t all look very creative today is it? That’s why I show you this spread from my art journal, to add some colour to this blogpost.

The Chronicles of Marit 2018 – Week 31

And now I’m off to mix a nice, lilac colour and paint the case… remind me to take photos when it’s done.

Oh, and last but not least: there are new workshops in my shop: online workshops (in Dutch and English!) as well as ‘live’ workshops. I put the badges and links in the side menu on my blog so take a look overthere if you’re interested.

Thanks for stopping by today, have a nice colourfull day!

Hi Marit, i think you should go all out on the lilac bookcase and add funky mandalas and tie dye effects to go with the blanket. Clever idea. Love the latest weekly spread. Happy WOYWW. Sarah #18

Morning Marit. My word – you are BUSY! All that painting – when you have finished, do you want to come do my lounge?? I have been planning to do it since… oh, ages ago. I do have some of the wallpaper, but not the rest, and I do have the paint….
Hope your on-line workshops go well.
    Take care. God bless.

Loved the journal pages but I had to smile at myself. I read the words as Yee Haa which is a call I associate with a cowboy and then proceeded to read the words in the bottom right corner of the first page when I realised they were all in Dutch. Silly me. Just so used to reading your excellent English that I automatically thought I could read your journal. Anyhow, it is lovely and colourful.
The case should be lovely when painted lilac and I do ope you decide to paint some flowers on it for the 70’s look. I love anything like that – used to wear a flower in my hair, sometimes, in those days – memories.
    Hugs, Neet 4 xx

It’ll look fab painted in lilac and I think mandalas would be perfect too!! Perhaps with a touch of painted sashiko as well?! I love your craft space, it’s a serene room.

Would love to see the wall when it’s finished – some flower power 70’s designs would look great on it! It’s been cooler here as well – not as hot as it’s been – it would be nice to have a long, warm autumn before winter comes! Cool journal spread in your signature style! Happy Wednesday – hope you have a good week! zsuzsa #24

Back of the bookcase. Yes, it makes sense to paint them. This is also another surface to tack some of your artwork or other fun stuff. Have a great week. Dorlene #31

When you’re done there, Marit, I have door trim that needs a couple coats of white before the 28th of this month… 😉 Love the Lilac. My sister painted her attic bedroom lilac (she was 17) and to this day she swears she did no such thing LOL I remember because that’s where I learned the word lilac (I was 6) Thanks for the walk down memory lane. Creative Blessings! Kelly #27
