Goodmorning lovely ones and THANK YOU for all the compliments you left on my last blog post about the altered jacket. I just saw I inspired Jan (Lunch Lady Jan) and she’s diving into the Sashiko embroidery techniques too… you go girl!!!
I put aside the jeans jacket I plan to Sashiko-embroider-alter to start a ‘small project’ in between and you can see it on my desk today. Here’s the photo of my desk first…
“A crocheted box?”
Let me explain: the handyman came last week and boy ‘did he handy’…. he secured the closet to the wall in my atelier, hung the whiteboard (I’ll give you the grand tour of my finished atelier in another blogpost), he put shelves up in the storage/washing room, hung the blinds in front of the window and hung all the lamps… yay!!! Oh, and he hung a shelf to the wall in the bathroom to store the toilet rolls stock… and that’s where my crochet project comes in. Putting a big stack of toilet rolls packed in plastic on that shelf looks hideous! So I went into town to buy a nice box to store the rolls. Did I tell you I’m no good at measuring things? Well, I’m not good at that… It happened before and it happened again… I got the size of the shelf/box all wrong and the box I bought was waaaay too big to go on that shelf.
I made a new plan: I bought lovely blue cotton thread and crocheted a ‘basket’ that I will stiff with glue (I looked it up on the internet and I hope it will work!) The gessoed cardboard will be painted blue and goes on the bottom. I will try to remember to take pics for you and show you next time how it works out (keep your fingers crossed!)
Despite all those ‘extra projects and house stuff’, I keep the Chronicles Art Journal going. Here’s two spreads for you that I created in the weeks I was working on my son’s jacket and these pages were highly influenced by that.
The Chronicles of Marit 2018 – Week 24
I discovered ‘Sashiko’ and ordered fabric and yarn to work with in week 24, so this spread got a Japanese feel to it.

Thanks for stopping by today… if you live in a place where it is as warm as it is here: stay cool!
And if you’re not in such a place… stay cool anyway!

Hi Marit, that storage box you are making sounds very interesting, will be cool to see when it’s finished. Have a lovely week, Hugs, Shaz #4 XxXx

Hi Marit, I see you’ve got Jan all fired up to try some of that embroidery. I don’t see why stiffening the crochet won’t work. My mum makes snow flake Christmas decorations in the same way. Great journal layouts as always. Have a good week. Sarah #16

I hope you don’t mind that I’m copying you but my attempt won’t be anything as wonderful as your jacket!! I’m completely in love with Sashiko so a huge thank you for pointing me in the right direction. The crochet box sounds a great idea, you’ll have to show us how it turns out!

Love your Japanese themed pages, and your crochet basket sounds like a very good idea – it should be easy to make, you can do the same by draping a crochet mat over an upturned bowl and gluing it, it then dries in a bowl shape and looks great. Have fun and I look forward to seeing your finished project.

Hi Marit, I’ve done something like your crocheted box before and used starch to stiffen it. Loving your journal spreads, very Marit style I think. Have a lovely creative week and a happy woyww, Angela x11x

I got it wrong, I thought it was the actual jeans you were stitching not a jacket – think it would be super cool to do both.
Not a clue what the crochet bag is going to look like so I await eagerly the picture of it, good luck, hope it all works for you.
Great desk and even greater Chronicles, especially the Japanese one – love that kind of thing.
Hugs until next week, Neet 5 xx

I’m so jealous of your handyman Marit, my Hubby was the handiest of men and could turn his hand to anything but now due to ill health he’s unable to do those things anymore so I have to try and do most things myself..
Looking forward to seeing your new creation, your chronicle journal pages are marvellous. Thank you for sharing WOYWW..

Hi Marit I had to grin over buying the wrong size box to store things in, that is totally something I would do. sounds like your handy man was worth every penny you spent on him too. and the new storage box sounds like it will be perfect 🙂 ~Stacy #30
