It’s ‘Haiku my Heart Friday’ and so I have a haiku for you.
Again it is one I found in my book case… I’m by any means done
with book titles, and this is a special one!
While collecting books for my ‘haiku series’, my beloved asked me
if I could come up with a haiku using only books from his shelf.
The haiku would also have to fit him as a person.
Ha… now that is what you call daring me!
Here you have it love: this one is especially for you {kiss}
Van dichtbij gezien
Een hoofd vol manke vliegen Zen-zin Zen-onzin |
Observed from up close
A head filled with crippled flies Zen-sense Zen-nonsense |
The English translation didn’t give me much trouble this time… I only had
to find another word for ‘seen’ – I chose ‘observed’ instead, but the official
book title is ‘seen from up close’.
I am glad that Rebecca, who hosts ‘Haiku my Heart Friday’, is back after
a two weeks’ absence and I look forward to visit the other participants
and read their haiku this weekend. The list of participants is published
on Recuerda Mi Corazon
For those visiting me today that have not seen my former ‘book-title-haiku’,
you can find the series on my facebook page and in my gallery here.
Now on to some art… remember I made/bound a small book and called it
‘Weird art journal’ ? (see this post)
Be careful how to name your books… ’cause weird it is.
It refuses to work with me!
I started a ‘weird story’ spread, but didn’t like it one bit.
Sorry, I forgot to take a photo – I just put gesso over it and started over.
Here’s what came next…
(Size: 26 x 21 cm - 10.2 x 8.3 inch)
… and again, I didn’t like this spread one bit.
Somehow this journal seems to ‘block’ me! Aarghhh.
I don’t give up easily though. Know what I did?
You guessed it: I smeared again a layer of gesso over it.
Thank god for that stuff!
Here’s the third layer/spread and this time, I’m quite content.
You can see all the former layers shimmer, and I like the effect.
Conclusion: this art journal is weird in another way then I expected it to be.
I’m curious what the next pages will bring!
Next page I started with this Fall Fearless and Fly challenge in mind.
Headline Prompt: Triumphs and Defeats: What do you see as your
greatest triumphs or defeats? What have they taught you? Which have
you learned more from?
Color Prompt: Black and white
Quote Prompt: Not in the clamor of the crowded street, not in the
shouts and plaudits of the throng, but in ourselves, are triumph and defeat.
~ Henry Wadsworth Longfellow ~
I started with only greys and black but soon, the red appeared.
So I shifted my attention from the color to the quote prompt, and ended
up using only the last words from the quote.
Does it still count for the challenge?
I don’t know but I like it a lot!
(Size: 21 x 29,7 cm - 8.3 x 11.7 inch)
And now, dear ones, it’s time for me to get to the vacuum cleaner.
(I know – I normally don’t talk ‘housekeeping’ much. That is because
I don’t DO housekeeping much and that’s why I HAVE to do housekeeping
this afternoon…)
I wish you all a wonderful weekend.
Keep on rockin’ in the free world! (with or without vacuum cleaner…)
Liked the haiku! Made me smile! Wishing you a grand weekend!
Love the ‘book title’ haiku for your husband ~ well done ~ Lovely and creative artwork too ~ (A Creative Harbor) ^_^
WOW! Love the art journal…and liked your FB page. Thanks also for link to Artist in Blogand.
Don’t clean too much! lol
I love that haiku – it made me laugh! Great work!
Your Fall Fearless and Fly Challenge looks like a corn cob.
Do you write in an art journal after you make one? Or is the art itself that appears the journal? (I am an art dunce and by asking these questions and mentioning the corn cob I am showing that side of myself unashamedly)
I will indeed look at your Facebook page and find out more about the Book Title haiku. Seems very interesting as I know a friend that has thousands of books.
I have a page too besides my personal profile. It is called Spadoville, and it is on Facebook.
Much Peace
aaahhhh ….

{{ i always admire your art }}
You have been so incredibly creative with your work – all so expressive and lovely!
I always love reading your haikus and how you were inspired to write them Marit! I think both of your “weird ” spreadsa re pretty cool and I love your piece for FF & F-nice art all around!!
Love that last page, goegeous work
beautiful work as always Marit, I hope you will join in creating the gratitude quilt:-) more info at the top of my blog.
Loving your journal page!! I loveeeeeee how you can still see the circles!!!
I love your art work! and your bookcase haiku is brilliant. Hope your beloved agrees!
dear marit,
you are a clever inspired woman and so wonderful to come home to!
I love seeing the process your weird journal spread went through – it turned out beautifully! Love your black and red spread too! Have an awesome weekend Marit!
You came up with a terrific haiku!
My dearest Marit, do you have any idea how much I was looking forward to this moment, of immersing myself in your creative genius? I am like a kid in an art store! And, I love these haiku book titles! But, then your beloved is pretty special, as are you, so the combination is thrilling! What a super idea!
Yes. The trip was amazing. And you and your beloved would love it. Truly. Both of you. There were two husbands and nine women (seven of us women were without our beloveds…) and it was one of the most special trips of my life. I can see you there, I can. Maybe…??? Life is full of surprises. Like coming here. Like having you in my heart! XO
Actually, having you in my heart is not a surprise, it is something I truly treasure! Love to you both!
The weird journal is taking you for a fun ride- I can’t wait to see what it brings next for you! I think it counts perfectly for Fall Fearless and Fly! I totally understand about a color sneaking in – that black and white was insanely tough! Often times I don’t work the quote into the piece but what it brings up in my while I am creating is powerful- like the idea of using just part of the quote! So glad you shared this with Fall Fearless and Fly!
You are so creative with your art ~
I enjoyed the haiku offering for your hubby ~ I do enjoy zen sense and non-sense ~ Smiles ~
Ah, that marvellous Zen sense. Nice one.
This definitely counts for Fall Fearless and Fly. I love how your color just had to appear. And I agree with Carolyn – even if I don’t use the quote directly in my work, it’s influence is there. Love your pages and am so glad you joined us.
Ah, the poor flies!(Or maybe not?)
Seven Haiku with Simon
Fijn weekend!
