Haiku on Friday – Fence

September 14, 2018 By Marit 6 Comments

Het hek staat open
en we lopen door het gras
van hier naar ergens
Green fields. Open fence
invites us to walk further
from here to somewhere

I always try to translate the haiku into English without losing the atmosphere of the poem and keeping the right number of syllables. And there are times when the English version/haiku comes to mind first. Sometimes I even like the English version better. Not in this case though… the Dutch version speaks to me more because of the internal rhyme. However, writing and translating a haiku is a good training to improve both my mother language (Dutch) as well as English.

I submit today’s haiku to Recuerda Mi Corazon where our lovely hostess Rebecca brings us all together to share haiku on this Friday event Haiku my Heart.

Thank you for this invitation to walk into such beauty, from here to somewhere… I love seeing your haiku in the two languages. I don’t have the cadence or pronunciation, but still, I attempt to say the words out loud in Dutch. I also have a new haiku link and chance to start anew… love to you my dear friend!

Who could resist such an invitation? Adventure is in my blood, and I want to see the “somewhere” that lies beyond the gate.

Yes walk through the open gate. Don’t try to climb the fence like somebody I know. 🙂
