The rains tumble down in the sky
Young swallows have learned how to fly
The leaves that were green are no longer so green
And it looks like the summer is over
(~ Dusty Springfield ~)
It started raining yesterday evening and now, hours later, the rain still pours down… the summer is over indeed but the heat still lingers in my atelier. I opened the window to get some fresh air and the wind makes my garland sway… the garland Jenny de Bode send me a while ago, along with some other nice ‘stuff’ to create with (like a Danish newspaper – I’ll come to that in a while…)
First, I show you my desk. It’s been ten (10!) weeks since I joined the tribe of “What’s On My Workdesk Wednesday” but nothing’s changed. My desk is still there, with the usual stuff, and I guess the comments about how organized I am will still be the same too. Yes, that too did not change.
I spend a great deal of the summer watching “Tour de France” and crocheting. You may have seen my granny square that I showed in June… I crocheted two more blankets to put on the beds in the guest room. One is the same as the granny square I showed, the other one can be seen here.
Of course I spend some time in my atelier too but now that the weather changes and September’s around the corner you will find me there more hours a day. Besides art journaling, I want to work on canvas this autumn and I have plans to start several art journal projects. I also spend more time at the computer lately and came across this photo/art piece by Henrietta Harris.
The image (and the text from a Danish newspaper: “live life until the very last breath”) inspired me to create the next art journal spread.
While working on this spread the question came to mind: “is it ‘swiped’, is it ‘borrowed’ or is it ‘inspired by…'”
When does ‘steal’ becomes ‘inspired by…?’
I’d like to hear your thoughts about this topic.
Thanks for stopping by my blog today, I hope this week will bring you much inspiration!
Hi Marit. 10 weeks? Really? That long since I popped by here?! Oh my word – how quickly this year is going by! Yes, your desk is still neat – but you have been extremely busy with your crocheting. Well done.
Take care. God bless.

It’ s none of all those in my opinion Marit. Out of many pieces of ‘washed up debris’ you created something completely new. ‘CREATED’ will do just fine! Love the Danish newspaper cutting !!!
I definitely think of this sort of art as inspired by; you have not copied the work, merely used it as a starting point and added your own interpretation. Nice to see you back! Sarah #13
I think, Marit, that we can claim ‘inspired by’ when we know who inspired it, and give them credit, as you have done. That, I think is the most important thing. Giving the credit. I find that when those whose work was used as inspiration find out, they are pleased, at being the inspiration, and that they were given the credit for it. Love what you’ve created from your inspirational piece. Have a lovely week, Hugs, Shaz#3 XxX
Hello Marit. i wish we had a rainy day here today, as it will soon be in the 80’s here (F). Collage is a mysterious art form. We collect like magpies do, and then bring together our bits of treasure when we crate. It isn’t stealing, necessarily, though copyrights do apply. I’ve struggled over what is mine and what is someone else’s every time I use found items in collage work. BTW, I do notice differences in the way your desk is looking. Today, both your palette and your journal spread look unique to now.
😉
Happy WOYWW!
