The heat is gone! (woyww #530)

July 31, 2019 By Marit 15 Comments

Goodmorning dear ‘deskers’ and all other followers… now that the heat wave is over, I’m back! Did you, overthere in the United Kingdom, had warm days too last week? It wasn’t do-able here on the continent to sit in my atelier and blog (or create) because of the heat… pffff, I’m glad those tropical days were over last weekend,  it’s actually raining today.

There’s even something on my workdesk!

WOYWW #530

Yessss… I’m working on a spread in my Chronicles art journal for week 30, which was last week – that means that I am finally up-to-date again with creating these weekly spreads. I had my daily notes on my desk to remind me what I did the weeks before, so I could create the two spreads of the weeks before.

The Chronicles of Marit 2019 – Week 28

It’s a recurring thing each Summer: I watch the ‘Tour de France’ and when you look at my art journals, you can tell which weeks that race is held ’cause my pages show the cyclists every Summer. On the above spread, there’s also a painting of a platypus (duck-bill?) How come? Well… I still haven’t found the right fabric to make curtains in front of the balcony door-and-window. That’s not a problem as we live third floor and don’t have neighbours peeping in, but on sunny days the sun is right on the window and temperature rises high in the living room… so I took some pieces of fabric from my stash to hang in front of the windows as a protection, and one of those cloths has African designs on it, wherein an image of this animal (I know, it looks more Australian than African.) I more-or-less copied the image to paint in my journal.

The Chronicles of Marit 2019 – Week 29

And something completely different… I made this postcard for my friend Jenny

Jenny was one of my guest-bloggers for the Quirky Dutch Summer blogseries… did you see it? If not, you should go and take a look at these inspiring Quirky posts (find the list here) and especially hop on over to the post that went online last Monday, ’cause it’s written by someone we all know: Zsuzsa (Inky Dinky Doodle.) She wrote an inspiring tutorial!

I look forward to visit the other deskers to see what everybody is up to, and to find out if no one melted last week…

It’s been raining here too Marit and is a lot cooler than last week. I think it’s called a duck billed platypus because it’s mouth reminds us of a duck’s beak (or bill as it can also be called). Love the chronicles and glad you’ve had chance to catch up. I didn’t watch much of the tour de France but I followed the coverage on the radio. Happy WOYWW. Sarah #9.

We’ve had a little respite from the hot weather over hear – I quite like it cool myself – if it gets warmer than 19C I start getting cranky! Super journal pages in your signature style. I hope the ladies visiting your blog will feel inspired to create something with my tutorial and I look forward to Tracey’s offering next week! Happy rainy day! zsuzsa #16

Hi Marit, yes the weather has been very similar here. My poor dogs Maisie and Stan couldn’t sleep as it was too hot so of course they had to wake us up too. Thank goodness it’s cooled down now and we’ve had rain for the last couple of days. I know some people will think I’m mad but I just can’t cope with that kind of temperature so quite happy now it’s cooler. Glad you liked my caravan stamp. I started it with the intention of using it and then got distracted with something else and it’s got left there at least for the time being. I enjoyed seeing your pics of the ‘Tour De France’. We watched some of it on TV particularly when they changed the route and went through Le Menuire and up to Val Thorens as that’s one of the ares that we ski every year and it was interesting to see it without snow………Ah! but it will soon return and then we’re off to the slopes again!!! Whatever you are do today have a lovely woyww, Angela x13x

It was a brilliant Tour this year! We’re mad keen fans too and I was happy for Egan G or Julian Alaphillipe to win. I’m so pleased that the heat has gone, here too in Wales, though we didn’t have it as hot as you, it was still to much for me. I think I have Viking blood and like the cooler temps.

yes we had record temperatures last week, was horrible! then heavy rain (as you’ve seen!) brolly is a slang shortened term for umbrella – I never normally take one with me as I have loads of camera stuff but I’d have looked like a drowned rat if I hadn’t bought one. Love your latest chronicles pages. Have a great (cooler!) week. Helen #3

Hello Marit, thank you for popping by. Last week was far too hot for me – on Thursday I thought I would not survive it. This week much colder and a lot of rain. i don’t like very hot weather. I am much happier in a cooler season. Like your work. Anne x 12

Hi Marit, gorgeous journal pages as always. Loving the platypus! Really late this week, spent most of yesterday afternoon in A&E, as the breathlessness wasn’t easing off. They gave me IV Antibiotics & steroids, and some nebulisers, which has helped, but it’s still not what it should be. Have a lovely week, Hugs, Shaz #4X

Yes, the temperature is down – just as our new portable air con unit arrived! Typical! It works well too and the lighting changes and is very pleasant to watch. Luckily in the north of England the weather does not get as hot as it did down south so we were never actually melting – just hot!
Love catching up with your Chronicles, especially the first page which looks so pretty in pink and pale blue (even thought i am not into pretty colours normally
Now to go and search for ZsuZsa’s project.
    Hugs, Neet 1 xx).

At last I can get here Hoorah!!! I’m glad that your weather has cooled also, we have had awful high heat the heavy rains but although cooled it is still a little humid or is that just me and my age hee hee!!
Always a smile to be had from your chronicles Marit, you really are so masterful with your surrounding script. I love your postcard and smart message, it would make great wall art to inspire us all each and every day.
I hope you soon find the material you need for your curtains in time for those cosy times of Autumn that will soon be upon us all.
    Happy WoywW Hugs Tracey xx

I love your pages, Marit! I especially love it that you have done a platypus. They are my favourite wild animal! They are so extraordinary and quirky. Your art work is soooo cool! Thank you for your visit. I also found my weight crept up after I was 40, until a few years ago I decided to take myself in hand because I was quite overweight, and I went on the 5:2 diet (eating a calorie restricted diet 2 days a week and normally the rest of the week) and I lost 4 stone! It took a while but I’ve kept it off mostly, despite it fluctuating wildly at times because of being in hospital etc. Both my hubby and I are on it but we’ve come to a bit of a full stop, and I think moving over mostly to a whole-food, plant-based diet, is going to do the trick. I don’t think a lot of diets really work to lose weight because they are hard to stick to, and the weight always goes on again afterwards, and what is really required is a lifestyle change. I used to make the excuse that I was fat because I was middle-aged but I’ve proved myself wrong!

    Happy belated WOYWW,
