Good morning beautiful ones, and a beautiful morning it is. Blue skies and white clouds… a famous ‘Dutch sky’ like Jacob van Ruisdael used to paint (and many more famous painters.) I can see such a sky right through my window, although it does not show on the photo. The photo is from the work desk and I combined two photos to give a view from left to right (on the far right is my computer, but I cut that off the photo ’cause that’s not really interesting to see.) Here’s how my work desk looks this morning
OH MY… did I mess up the canvas yesterday! The ‘lady’ was a cut out image from a magazine (I cut the face out too, so she had a blank ‘face’) I was in doubt if I should paint over it or leave it a photo and collage around it or something. Somehow, I decided to get my paint out… and I don’t like how it looks at all! I cannot go back to the former phase so I will have to work with this. I might even cover it all up.
Same happened on the ‘intuitive canvas’ (I showed you last week.)
It’s not as messed up as the ‘lady canvas’ but I’m not satisfied either…
This canvas may become a repeating object in my posts…
Luckily, I have two art journal pages to show you that I am happy with! Both made last Summer for “The Documented Life Project.”
May 16
May Theme: Touchy Feely (Texture)
Art Challenge: Modeling Paste
Journal Prompt: Rising to the Occasion
I don’t have modeling paste so I had to be inventive. I had a stencil ‘bricks’ and thought of the song “Brick by Brick” (by Racoon.) I mixed gesso, heavy gel medium and sand to create the ‘brick look’ and wowzah, it worked great! Here’s a detail photo.
The ‘intuitive way of painting’ inspired me to try something like it on my next art journal page… here’s the prompt
May 23
May Theme: Touchy Feely (Texture)
Art Challenge: Cheesecloth
Journal Prompt: Say Cheese
and here’s what I made with it.
I love this page. If only I could create something like this on canvas… what is it, that makes me fear the canvas so much? I HAVE to get over that one of these days… I’m working on it sweeties – to be continued.
P.S. Don’t forget about my GIVEAWAY – you have until Friday 10 a.m. CEST to enter.

Hi Marit, your workdesk looks very organised. It will be interesting to see how your projects develop over time. Often the ones that challenge us turn out to be the best.

Hi Marit, I love the home made texture paste, it looks wonderful. Love the page. I agree with you, canvas scares me, lol. I would love to do one, and have watched many You Tube videos and seen some gorgeous ones created. Just not actually had a go myself yet. One of these days, lol. Have a great week, Hugs, Shaz #5 xxx

marit I just love those DLP and how you blended all the elements to feel so natural. Maybe you should make a canvas journal to enable the step into a new substrate.

I think both your canvas’s are great . We are always too critical of our own work. Love the brick wall page – very clever:) Have a great week.Soojay 23

Your art is simply beautiful.

I’m the same way with canvas, something about it makes it harder for me to let lose. Still your canvas is beautiful, full of color and shapes. I think you are too hared on yourself. Cheesecloth is one of my favorite go-to’s for texture. Diane 44
