Another Wednesday ‘in lockdown’ and this was on my table yesterday…
Yep, I started making facemasks (recognize that fabric Jan?) for myself and my family. We are told that we don’t need to wear masks in the Netherlands, keeping social distance to protect yourself is enough. Wearing a mask could give you the idea that you are safe, but it really isn’t. Keeping your distance is.
OK, I understand, but still I think when society opens up a little more, the people will be asked to wear a facemask to protect the others. So I thought it’s never a bad thing to sew a few – and if we don’t have to use them after all, it still is a fun project to work on and keeps me off the street 😀
I found the free pattern via a friend on Facebook, this mask is really snug (with wire over the bridge of the nose) and has a pocket for a filter (apparently you can use chopped up hoover bags or dried baby wipes….) The pattern is HERE for anyone else who fancies a go (and the video tutorial with the pattern is really clear and helpful!)
And that’s it for now dear ones. After all the sewing I feel the urge to dip my hands in ink and paint today. Have a nice day y’all, do something nice AT HOME and stay safe!

Great mask and in OZ we are also told that masks are not necessary. But, I can see it is better to be prepared. Do a little research on the Hoover bags quite a lot of controversy regarding cutting the bag and then inhaling the fibres which can be harmful. Once I started researching it all became far too difficult and I just stayed home. Gorgeous fabric.
Stay safe

I’m busy making facemasks too and like you I’m not sure if they will be needed or not but better to be safe than sorry eh? Keep smiling, we can do this lockdown thing.

Thanks for the link for the mask, yours look great. I think we may well be asked to wear them at some stage even though they won’t be 100% effective but every little helps and I guess it’ll contain a sneeze!! I don’t think I will be going very far for a very long time. Happy WOYWW, stay safe, stay well, Cindy #18

Hi Marit. A lovely cheerful mask you have made there. Yes, I’m not entirely convinced masks are the way forward either – but there we go. Scotland has said it recommends people wear them in enclosed spaces once they start to lift restrictions – but England and Wales are currently saying differently.
Take care. Stay safe. God bless.

Great mask. Everywhere seems to be saying different things. I’m not going out at all but can see the benefit of wearing one in the future. Fab desk share. Take care Zoe xx 25

I never thought i’d say this Marit but that the prettiest face mask i’ve ever seen, reminds me of fabulous tattoo work.. You wear it very well dear Marit.. I hope you have now got your hands all painty, it wouldn’t be the same without a paint play day.
Wishing you & yours all the best, stay safe & creative Tracey #14

Oh like the mask, better for the eyes shaping like that so thanks for the link to the pattern. I might have another go, the straight one wasn’t good for my small face as it went in my eyes.

Your mask is so very stylish in that lovely fabric, and it looks very professionally made. Thank you for the link to the pattern, I am thinking it might be an idea to make a few even though I’m not going out at the moment – who knows what life will be like when lock down starts relaxing a little.
Have a good week, stay safe and well,

I think I’m going to get someone to make me a mask as they may make them compulsory on buses/trains (not that I; using them at the moment) It’s great fabric! Stay safe, take care.. Helen ‘4

Well that has to be one of the best looking masks I’ve seen so far, such lovely fabric. I think it will for a while, be a necessary reassurance to wear a mask, whatever the advice!

Its 50/50 with the masks, some say it work some say it doesn’t, who knows, all I know is that they are bloody hard to breathe through lol. Good for you planning ahead

That’s a very pretty mask, Marit. I do hope we won’t be forced to wear them, though, because I hate anything across my face. Also I’ve heard that they don’t do any good unless they are proper virus-filter ones, and can actually cause more problems than they prevent. I prefer the idea of social distancing.
Happy belated WOYWW,

Lovely desky share so very sorry I’m late… again… 😁 but least can leave comment with you though suspect safari might eat it up? Did with Shoshi’s blog…
Thanks for being a blessing, and may God bless you too, especially in these troubled times, may we look up in faith, not at the mud underneath ! Praying you’re all kept well too!

Hi Marit, thank you for your reply. I’m glad you like my cards. Like you, I’m not into mandalas as such – at least, not on the spiritual side at all, but as pretty circular designs I have no objection. I only retain the name “mandala” so that the majority of people know what i am talking about! My hubby has been working out in the garden again today and has fitted the concrete in the lawn for my new whirlygig clothesline which arrived today, so next week I shall be able to dry the laundry in the fresh air, as long as it doesn’t rain! He will fix the fountain surround over the next few days.
