African pattern on a sunny day
(and some lightning…)

August 26, 2011 By Marit 33 Comments

I missed last week’s ‘Haiku my heart’ because I was in Zeeland –
but I will make it up to you with three* haiku’s.
All of them inspired by the item I bought last Friday…

(*plus one bonus haiku just for today!)

You will also find art journal pages in this post.
See – there’s something for everyone! Enjoy!

(Click on the images to enlarge for a better view)

Afrikaans patroon

groene oases

African pattern

circles speak of desert sun

with green oases

..

zonnige kleuren

op de plank in mijn  kleerkast

de dag begint blij

fladderend katoen

bij elke stap die ik neem

lopen is een feest

Bright, sunny colours

On the shelf in my closet

I can’t help but smile

fluttering cotton

I smile with each step I take

it’s a feast to walk

..

While typing this blogpost, the following happened…

So here’s a bonus haiku for you…

Donder en bliksem

ruzieën boven mijn hoofd

de computer uit

Thunder and lightning

break the sky above my head

computers shut down

For more ‘Haiku my heart’ visit Recuerda Mi Corazon

My new pants reminded me
of a photo I had in my stash
for quite some time.

I cut the image out months ago,
because it made me happy
just looking at it.

Now the time had come to use it!

But first, my son took
a photo of me in the same pose.
(Not the same body shape
but who cares…)

Be Bold

Miscellaneous Art Journal: 21 x 17 cm - 8.7 x 13.4 inch

I think I went a little bit over the top with this page…
I just couldn’t stop doodling and adding colours.
This page does have the right feeling to it though, don’t you think?
“Far out man! Funkyyyy!”

Here’s a more serene page in the same ‘Miscellaneous’ art journal.

What I might be

Miscellaneous Art Journal: 17 x 21 cm - 13.4 x 8.7 inch
Used materials: water colour paint, water-soluble oil crayons,
distress ink, stamps: text & labyrinth, handcut silhouette,
glimmer mist, old Chinese (?) calendar, sharpies.

‘When I let go of what I am I become what I might be’ ~ Lao Tzu ~

The silhouette arose because I flipped over the mask that I used for
the ‘Hadewijch’ page and stamped it onto this page.

I finish this post with some exciting news.
I received an e-mail from Seth – The Altered Page – the other day.
Here’s what it said:

If you are reading this email, you are one of the artists who submitted
written responses to the Q & A section of my open call and, as you know,
were selected by me to be included in the book.

I am happy to be able to tell you that all of the content that I initially
submitted to my editor remains in the book. In other words…congratulations!
Some of your written responses are now officially included in the book.

The title of the book is now officially The Pulse of Mixed Media and it is
being released by North Light Books on 3/2/12, although it will be available
for pre-sale on Amazon long before that.

And here’s how the cover is going to look like:

Can you believe my words and opinions will be in it?! Woooowheeeee!
I still have to wait approximately 6 month before I can flip
through the pages to see which collaborators are in there with me,
but I’m excited already!

To Seth, this image of the cover must be like seeing an ultrasound photo
of his first baby… not born yet but a glimpse of how it will look like…
Congrats Seth, with your ‘pregnancy’ and good luck with the waiting!

It’s early in the afternoon now.
More thunderstorms are expected later today… I cleared out the
basement (again * sigh *) and I placed thick towels to catch the first water
that will come in… keep your fingers crossed that it won’t be as bad
as last Tuesday…

Enjoy your weekend dear ones!

Dear Marit… Congratulations on being published. That is great news! And I love the way you think, like an ultrasound of a baby not yet born. What a simple thought to connect the book and its beginning before it is avtually in book form.

I like the cloth. Is that a kinte’ cloth from Africa? It is stylish and you look fabulous. (I would be turning my head if you were to walk by my direction!).

The haiku are great. I love the line about “breaking the sky”. I speak with the Thunderbeings as oftennas they come around. I feel they are visitors with a message. They sound loud and tough, but bring the Life Blood of Mother Earth with the rain.

I am happy to visit your site today. It is full of life and good news.

    Peace

    Marit,
I adore the African pattern, the pants and I think that the wearer makes them all the more striking. She is quite lovely! I really liked the quote from Lao Tzu and the drawing that accompanied. I would love to have that one! All of your photos are great. I wish we would have a thunderstorm here. I love them. I am so very happy for you about the publishing!! How thrilled you must be and it is so well deserved. You must show us immediately when it happens. Great news all!
